Do you like pina coladas? Have you ever been caught between the moon and NYC?
Yacht rock was the music of the late 1970s and early 1980s that was the polar opposite of punk: think gentle singer-songwriter melodies, backed by session musicians playing some slowed-down disco funk. It’s music that, let’s face it, was completely daggy, but which you completely love anyway: think the likes of Michael McDonald, Toto, Steely Dan, Hall & Oates, Boz Scaggs and the Captain & Tennille.
The Smooth Sailing Yacht Rock Party features an crack 13-piece band, complete with horns and backing vocalists, featuring musicians who’ve played with the likes of Josh Pyke, Lazy Susan, The Lee & Nancy Experience, and Suzy & The Snakepit. Aside from playing some of the songs that got to the top of the Yachtest 100, there’ll be cocktails, a yacht rock-themed photobooth setup, and captains hats galore. And with beats this smooth, you’ll steer your ship to the dancefloor.
